Every year, the Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic provides voluntary sports coverage to every high school in Leon County as well as local junior colleges. It is our goal to make Leon County one of the safest places to participate in sporting activities. To that end, we have established the Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic (TOC) Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to education and research in order to continually improve the health and well being of all athletes.
“Our collective experience in sports medicine allows us to bring a wealth of knowledge to anyone who participates in exercise and physical activity,” says Dr. Tom Haney, co-founding partner of TOC and board member of the TOC Foundation.
In the past year, the TOC Foundation has undertaken an initiative in concussion management. We are the first and only county in the state of Florida to provide pre-season neurocognitive testing of all Junior Varsity and Varsity high school football and softball players in all county schools. This has allowed us to better manage head injuries and trauma, and insure that players are not returned to the field of play too soon. Our hope is to expand this program to cover all athletes involved in potential collision injuries not only in Tallahassee, but in surrounding counties as well. However, this can only be made possible by the generous support of people like you.
